Residents of Kings Colony at Shastripuram heaved a sigh of relief after the GHMC authorities dug up a temporary drain to facilitate the discharge of water.

The streets of the colony were under sheets of water after a small irrigation tank filled to its brim and excess water overflowed into the colony fifteen days ago.

On Tuesday, GHMC South Zone Commissioner N. Ravi Kiran visited the area and reviewed the ongoing works that began on Saturday.

Men and machine deployed

The authorities have deployed machinery and labour to oversee the discharge of water.

“The water is highly polluted and we are unable to gauge its approximate volume. Things will be clear only on Wednesday,” Mr. Kiran said.
