Demanding that the written test to select Sub-Inspectors be held as per the schedule, activists of the PRP staged a rasta roko at Sarpavaram junction on Saturday evening. Over 100 activists led by party's district unit president Jyothula Nehru and MLAs Kurasala Kanna Babu, Vanga Geetha and Pantham Gandhi Mohan raised slogans demanding that there should not be any delay in the recruitment of SIs.
Vehicular traffic came to a standstill for about an hour due to the rasta roko.
In a bid to clear the traffic at the arterial junction, the police made preventive arrest of Mr. Nehru, Mr. Kanna Babu, Mr. Gandhi Mohan and Ms. Geetha. A case was registered.
Students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University staged a rasta roko on NH-5 in Etcherla opposing the postponement of the examination for selection of SIs. They raised slogans against the government.
Students of various private colleges also staged a dharna in the town alleging that Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy was instrumental in postponement of the examination.
Telugu Desam former MLA K. Atchennaidu extended the party's support to the agitation .
A number of SI aspirants organised a rasta roko, climbed fort terrace and threatened to jump from there in protest against postponement of the recruitment test. The police, however, persuaded them to climb down. The aspirants said that linking Telangana issue with recruitment test was not justified.
