OU students to campaign against company owned by Naidu

HYDERABAD: Students of Osmania University have decided on Wednesday to undertake a campaign against Heritage Foods, a company owned by the family of Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu, accusing the latter of taking anti-Telangana stand.

The decision, said to be unfavourable to the business interests of the company selling milk and milk products, was taken after a detailed discussion of the Joint Action Committee of the student organisations at the campus. As a first step, the JAC gave an ultimatum to the university authorities to stop purchasing Heritage milk and switch over to Vijaya Dairy from Thursday. “This will not be confined to OU, but through the students we will ensure sale and use of the company’s products are stalled in all the 10 districts in Telangana,” M. Anil, JAC member said. The committee observed that Mr. Naidu was the first important leader to make a volte face on the separate State issue having assured to support any decision on the matter at an all-party meeting convened by the Government.

It pointed out that the TDP president sought votes on the same issue during the last general elections but hurt sentiments of the people of the region by backtracking now. Members of the JAC would take up door-to-door campaign in the districts to stop purchase Heritage products and stage demonstrations before Heritage stores from Thursday. They also vowed to take up campaign against movies of Chiranjeevi and his family members following his decision to support united Andhra Pradesh agitation. They also took out a rally from Arts College to Vidyanagar and burnt his effigy.
