There is severe shortage of blood in the blood banks of the city, typically observed during summer and more people have to donate blood to meet the shortage and save lives of those needing blood, CEO of Symbiosis Technologies O. Naresh Kumar said at a press conference held to announce opening of a blood bank by NTR Memorial Trust in the city on Sunday.

Blood Bank of Red Cross Society has some stock but the other five are having only minimum stock of blood units.

Blood is being provided to them after processing only if a donor is ready to replace the blood supplied. Also 90 per cent of women have low haemoglobin count who also need blood transfusion.

Mr. Naresh Kumar said Sahaya, an organisation of Andhra University with Symbiosis and CMR group, conducted a major blood donation camp in the city during January and on a single day collected 1,018 units of blood which was distributed equally to all the five blood banks in the city.
