Former MLA Adusumilli Jayaprakash has opposed the shifting of the Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre to Hyderabad.
In a press release on Friday Mr Jayaprakash said that the Cyclone Warning Centre has been a source of assurance for fishermen going to sea, for nearly five decades.
Similarly the Andhra University, that was based at Visakhapatnam, was the very first university to start a meteorology department. The department has been serving the public since then. Visakhapatnam MP D. Purandeswari not uttering a word about the shifting of the warning centre was most unfortunate, he said. Several such institutions have been shifted from the coast to Hyderabad. The administrative office of the VPT and the Andhra Bank head office are top among the institutions that have been shifted to Hyderabad, he said.
