Collector urged to allot site for MRPS for construction of its own building
The Self Help Group (SHG) women and a Dalit outfit are at logger heads over a piece of government land adjacent to the Eluru-Jangareddygudem road near government hospital in the city.
The district administration has allotted 400 sq. yards of land for construction of an office building for the West Godavari Zilla Samakhya of the SHG women. The Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) took possession of a portion of the land meant for the Zilla Samakhya office, leading to a showdown between the MRPS functionaries and the SHG women. The SHG women removed the MRPS flags and banners from the premises and took possession of the land allegedly subjected to encroachment by the MRPS last night, leading to tension in the area. Later, the SHG women led by the Zilla Samakhya president M. Jeevamani met Collector G. Vanimohan with a request to clear encroachments from the site allotted for them.
Palavala Chanti, the MRPS State vice-president, urged the Collector to allot the site for the MRPS for construction of its office building. Several people from the community kept coming to the city for meeting the SP, the Collector and the other officials for redressing grievances. Similarly, a good number of people were also coming to the government hospital for treatment from different parts of the city. They were all facing a lot of problems if they wanted to stay overnight in the city for want of accommodation, Mr. Chanti said.
The Mala Mahanadu activists put up a tent on an extent of 500 sq. yards of government land for construction of its district office building in the vicinity along the same road. Mr. Chanti expected unbiased treatment from the district authorities while treating the MRPS and the Mala Mahanadu in provision of land.
The vacant government land along the road from the court centre right up to the forest office has become vulnerable either to encroachments or ‘largesse’ by officials.
DWCRA Bazar, an outlet for sale of products of the SHG women, and the District Public Relations Office came up on the road margins. Besides, an extent of 300 sq. yards of land in the same area was allotted to Lambada community for constructing a community building.
The spree of structures fast coming up along the road scuttled the project for expansion of the Eluru-Jangareddygudem road into four-lanes in the fire station centre-- Ashok Pillar centre section to ease traffic congestion.
