It was a memorable evening for the culture lovers of the city on Saturday as they were enthralled by the performance of well-known exponent of ‘kathak’ dance Sharmishta Mukherjee, who is also the daughter of President of India, Pranab Mukheerjee, and ‘odissi’ dance exponent Sonali Acharjee.

Theme dances

Ms. Sharmishta Mukherjee and her troupe performed ‘She’, a dance ballet conceptualised, scripted and choreographed by her on the tales of ancient goddesses, while Ms. Sonali Acharjee and her team performed theme dances at Ravindra Bharathi as part of the celebration of 100 years of ‘Jana Gana Mana’.

Rope-skipping

Organised by Sonali Academy of Fine Arts in association with Shilparamaman, Department of Culture, South Zone and South Central Zone Cultural Centres, the cultural evening began with two breathtaking performances of rope-skipping by a team of students from Bhimavaram.

It was followed by two theme dances by Ms. Sonali Acharjee and her team on “Maa Telugu Talliki Mallepoodanda and Jaya Hey” composed with the fusion of Indian and western music. In the dance ballet ‘She’ Ms. Mukherjee and her team explained how our goddesses awakened the civilisation.

Minister for Cooperation Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy, Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy were among the audience who watched the performances.
