The lead campaigner of YSR Congress, Sharmila, entered the Kurnool district as part of her walkathon on Thursday. So far, Ms. Sharmila has successfully completed her tour of Kadapa and Anantapur districts and covered a distance of 350 km.

Tumultuous welcome

She was given a tumultuous welcome by leaders, party cadres and the general public on the outskirts of Maddikera town. As she briskly walked from the border towards Maddikera, hundreds of people stood along the road and greeted her by waving their hands and shouting slogans.

Later, she walked though the streets of Maddikera and addressed a meeting at the Police Station centre.

While she briskly walked and covered the 7-km distance between Kasapuram and Maddikera, others had to literally jog to match with her pace.

Addressing the meeting, she came down heavily on Congress and TDP saying both had colluded to harass Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and extended his stay in the jail in the name of economic investigations.

Had Jaganmohan Reddy compromised and joined hands with the Congress he could have become Union Minister and even Chief Minister of the State. But Jaganmohan Reddy was determined to stand by his word and fight till the end.

No match for Jagan

She said Jaganmohan Reddy enjoyed the highest credibility of public support and Chandrababu Naidu and Kiran Kumar Reddy were no match for him on that count.

She said the YSR Congress party and its supporters would have a bright future.. “I have been sent as an emissary of Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy to convey his word and feelings to you,” she told the crowd amid applause.

She assured the public that Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy would establish the spirit of the rule of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and end the woes of farmers, electricity consumers, women groups and educated youth who were struggling for payment of fee and in the absence of jobs.

Party leaders Sobha Nagireddy, Bhuma Nagireddy, S.V. Mohan Reddy, Gouru Venkat Reddy and others were among those who received Sharmila. She would be going round the district in the next fortnight meeting people and addressing meetings.
