MLA picked up earlier by Cyberabad police
In a slew of dramatic developments on Thursday, the Cyberabad police picked up Secunderabad Cantonment MLA P. Shankar Rao for questioning in the long-pending Green Fields Colony land grabbing case and admitted him in Gandhi hospital after he complained of chest pain.
Though speculation was rife that the police were arresting the MLA as he was driven to Neredmet police station and kept there for nearly two hours, the police announced that it was only part of the investigation into the case.
“We took him to Gandhi hospital; the doctors said he required medical attention,” Alwal ACP G. Ganesh Reddy said.
Mild tension prevailed at Neredmet police station when the MLA’s supporters assembled there demanding his release while residents of Green Fields Colony, fighting the case, gathered there urging the police to arrest him.
Green Fields Colony Welfare Association president S. Chandrashekhar filed a petition in the court alleging that Mr. Rao, his brother P. Dayanand and others tried to claim rights over 75 acres of land in the colony at Kanajiguda by presenting forged documents.
A criminal case was registered against them on November 9, 2011.
The MLA then obtained an order from the High Court staying his arrest.
The Neredmet police began investigation into the case after the stay order was vacated in October, 2012.
