Piped gas to cost one third of the cost of LPG cylinder: officials

Shamirpet in Ranga Reddy district is likely to get piped cooking gas by April 15.

Officials at a review meeting convened by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday to review the progress of works of the AP Gas Infrastructure Corporation said that piped gas would cost one third of the cost of a filled LPG cylinder.

Mr. Reddy directed officials to expedite cooking gas distribution through pipes in Hyderabad. He assured the officials of all support from the government, if they faced any difficulty in completion of the ambitious project.

He asked the companies to examine the possibility of employing ITI passed candidates. Officials said permission has been obtained from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to establish city or local area gas distribution networks in 12 districts.

Apart from Hyderabad, other districts to obtain permission are Medak, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Khammam, East and West Godavari, Krishna, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar and Warangal. Action was being taken to formulate tender process for other districts.

Bhagyanagar Gas Corporation started work in Kakinada, Samalakota, Pithapuram, Peddapuram, Vijayawada towns apart from Hyderabad.

The PNGRB was taking steps for supply of piped gas in the fourth round of bidding in Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Medak and Khammam districts. Officials pointed out that proposals for expression of interests pertaining to Chittoor district would be handed over to the PNGRB in the next 20 days.

They said 3-lakh connections in Hyderabad, 50,000 in Vijayawada and 47,000 piped gas connections in Kakinada would be given in the first phase.
