Hundreds of students under the banner of the SFI staged a half-naked demonstration in front of the Prakasam Bhavan here on Saturday to press for better facilities in social welfare hostels.
The students, led by SFI district secretary B. Raghuram, came in a procession to the Collectorate shouting slogans against the Congress government for poor facilities in government-run hostels.
Addressing the students, Mr Raghuram said even after 45 days of beginning of the academic year, the students were not provided textbooks, notebooks and four pairs of uniforms.
Condemning the indifferent attitude of the State government to the issues concerning students, SFI city secretary Ch. Sudhakar said it was unfortunate that the menu for hostellers had not been announced even now.
The hostels lacked basic facilities like safe drinking water and adequate toilets, contended SFI city president P.Rambabu.
Similar protests were organised in different parts of the district including Chirala, Addanki, Singarayakonda and S.N.Padu.
