HYDERABAD: Seven persons, including a chartered accountant were arrested by the city police on Saturday for allegedly extorting money from a contractor.
The accused persons have been identified as Syed Burhanuddin (27), Syed Mohammed Ali (28) and Syed Abdullah (27), all residents of Banjara Hills, V. Harsha (26) of Visakhapatnam, Sonu Ahmed Patel (22) alias Celina of Mumbai, Shaik Jani (26) of Bolarum and Baljinder Singh (42) of Punjab.
The gang members were arrested while sharing the extorted money at Burhanuddin’s house in Banjara Hills. They were blackmailing the contractor with a CD containing his alleged sexual activities recorded with a pen-camera in a house at Rishikonda. The gang wanted to extort money from the contractor in connection with a financial dispute.
Police seized Rs.9.45 lakh cash, two cars, laptop, and a revolver with 22 live rounds from the gang’s possession. The prime accused Burhanuddin was a former Censor Board member in New Delhi, while his accomplice Harsha was a chartered accountant.
