NALGONDA: The Department of Education has dispatched around seven lakh free textbooks to a total of 25 mandals in the district for the 2010-11 academic year.
The district so far has received as many as 18.47 lakh textbooks as against the total requirement of 22.92 lakh textbooks. The delay in the distribution of the textbooks to the students in the previous academic year evoked flak from various student unions.
In this backdrop, the department has devised a comprehensive action plan to distribute the textbooks to all the government, Zilla schools and aided schools in the district by the first week of June.
“We have taken adequate care to ensure prompt distribution of the free textbooks to all the students of the government and Zilla Parishad schools in time,” says District Educational Officer P. Sundar Rao.
Speaking to The Hindu, he said that the total required textbooks would be dispatched to the mandal resource centres in all the mandals before June 2.
The mandal educational officers have been directed to take appropriate steps for prompt distribution of the textbooks to the students before the stipulated timeframe, he said. The DEO said that a plan was on the anvil to distribute the textbooks in the presence of the parents and the elected representatives like the sarpanches concerned in the respective schools.
