A seminar to mark the birth centenary of noted Marxist leader Putchalapalli Sundaraiah would be organised at the Gachibowli campus of Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram here on April 6 and 7 and again on April 13 and 14.
Titled ‘Andhra Pradesh: prospect and retrospect’, the seminar will focus on the relevance to this day of a 100 page book written by Sundaraiah – Visalandhra lo praja rajyam – in 1946. The book deals with several issues which have a bearing even now, the chairman of the organising committee of the seminar Vamsicharan said.
He told a press conference here on Thursday that Sundaraiah’s dream of an egalitarian and casteless society as discussed in the book was yet to be realised.
He also discussed removal of differences between regions which had not happened till now as reflected in the political conflict between Telangana and coastal districts.
The seminar will address issues before and after formation of the State. It will go into rural-urban divide, present day politics and elections. CPI (M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury and noted economist Utsa Patnaik will attend the inaugural. The panellists include former secretary of Ministry of Rural Development B.N. Yugandhar.
