HYDERABAD: South Central Railway has appealed to the general public and agitators registering their protest on various issues not to damage railway property to vent their ire.
In a press release, SCR General Manager M.S. Jayanth said there were two incidents of rail coaches being burnt on Friday at Tirupati, while three diesel multiple units (DMU) of a passenger train were torched at Rajahmundry. The total loss on account of these incidents was Rs. 5 crore.
He urged the public to discourage any miscreant activity and also asked them to call officials of the RPF in case they came to know any information. Another press release stated that train no. 8646 Hyderabad-Howrah East Coast Express, scheduled to leave Hyderabad at 10 a.m. on Sunday was cancelled for want of rakes. Also, train no. 2764 Secunderabad-Tirupati Padmavathi Express scheduled to leave at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday was rescheduled to leave at 9.30 p.m.
