Mercury touches 42 degree Celsius in Nellore district
Water kiosks, stalls selling ice-cream, buttermilk and fruit juices make a quick buck

NELLORE: With the temperature touching 42 degree C in the district on Wednesday, many people remained in doors and the roads and streets were seen deserted due to heat.
Several shops were closed from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and the public were seen under the shade of trees.
Heavy rush was witnessed at water kiosks, ice cream shops, butter milk and juice stalls and at cool drink shops.
There was heavy demand for cold water bottles at pan shops.
In government and private offices, the staff preferred to remain in air-conditioned rooms due to scorching sun.
The heat wave continued till 4.30 p.m. and less public were seen at bus stations and other public places due to the heat. The problem was more acute in rural areas, as the public suffered a lot due to frequent power cuts.
Workers take a break
Unable to bear the heat, construction workers and other daily wage labourers, working outdoor, stopped work for a few hours in the afternoon.
The temperature was high on the sea coast near the beaches today.
The beaches which were seen crowded since a few days due to summer vacations were deserted on Wednesday. Doctors are advising the public, particularly the aged, patients and children to keep away from the sun to prevent from sun stroke.
