K.L. Narasimha Rao, UGC emeritus fellow and a retired professor of geology at SVU, is taking part in the 5th International Groundwater Symposium on ‘Water resources and human health (fluoride toxicity)’ to be held in Kuwait from November 19 to 21.

He will co-chair a scientific session on ‘Management solutions for groundwater rise problems’. An expert on water resources, Prof. Rao was instrumental in identifying sub-surface dams as a method of water conservation and led a consortium of NGOs to build 16 such structures on River Swarnamukhi in Tirupati in 2001-2002 to benefit 42,000 small farmers, which was then hailed to be the first such attempt in the entire world.
