Five more schoolchildren sustain injuries in the incident

Anantapur: One school boy died on the spot while five other boys were injured when a wall collapsed on an adjacent private school shed in Tadipatri town in the district on Friday morning.

Schoolchildren were sleeping under the shed when the wall collapsed on it, the shed consequently came crashing down.

Yugender Reddy, 5, died on the spot while five other children who sustained injuries are being treated in the government hospital.

Quoting residents, Inspector Venkata Shiva Reddy told The Hindu that a sound of explosion was heard in the morning after which the wall collapsed on the school shed resulting in the shed tumbling down.

He said investigations are on into the causes.

The police are presently at a loss to understand what might have caused the explosive sound or the wall collapse.
