Rakesh Sarma, Chief General Manager of State Bank of India (SBI), has said farm loans can be availed at zero rate of interest if borrowers repay the loans on time.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said the Centre had come forward to reimburse three per cent rate of interest and the State government four per cent. He asked the borrowers to establish a track record of financial discipline and enjoy good relations with the bank. Mr. Sarma said the SBI was planning to foray into rural areas in a big way by establishing ultra small branches and business correspondents in the villages with a population of 2,000 and above. The bank wanted to bring maximum number of customers under its fold.
