The dhaba created at the Vihar’s Upper Sea Deck at Rishikonda was ‘nakli’, but the festivities were ‘asli’ as the Punjabi food festival got under way on Friday.
Dancers from Punjab beating their ‘dhols’ vigorously set the tone for the festivities unfolding at the restaurant from Friday through October 21.
Members of the troupe entertained scores of invited guests to some dazzling stick dances and fire throwing.
The singers went around belting some of the popular soundtracks from Hindi movies and later some of the guests joined the dancers performing the popular Bhangra.
The visitors were served hot kebabs, which was prepared and fired in the tandoor in front of them.
The menu listed out traditional Punjabi delicacies such as sikandari raan, nargisi chicken, mutton seekh, mutton saagwala, chicken rada, paneer makhani, dal makhani, sarson ka saag, makkai ki roti, kasta roti, missi roti, and amritsari kulcha.
After a hearty meal, the gourmets had a choice between ‘phirni’ and Punjabi lassi.
The 10-day food festival is on from 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. and the all-male dance troupe from Punjab are going to regale the customers with some earthy music for a few days at the Nakli Dhaba.
