After days of tension and struggle, relatives were able to convince US authorities to hand over to them the body of Munagala Saritha Reddy, 26, who reportedly committed suicide at her residence at Madison City in Wisconsin State, unable to bear harassment from her husband, Annapureddy Sudheer Reddy. The incident was reported seven days ago.

Relatives said that by the time their representatives could reach Madison City to claim Saritha’s body, Sudhir Reddy gave away the body to a medical institution in the US after duly giving a declaration to them in his capacity as husband. He stated that the institution could take useful parts of the body and then cremate the remnants as per Hindu custom.

Sensing that something was fishy, the relatives communicated the ‘heartless act’ of Sudheer Reddy to the leaders of Telugu Association of North America (TANA), who in turn, complained to the US authorities.

Saritha’s maternal uncle, Gurava Reddy, and her sister, Kalyani, said that they would not have been able to get her body if there was a little delay on the part of their relatives in the US to reach Madison City.

They further said that a fresh complaint was submitted to the US authorities, stating that Saritha was deeply depressed after getting to know of Sudheer Reddy’s marriage with an American girl, Nikki, for the sake of getting a green card there. As he pressed for divorce, Saritha finally ended her life. Based on this, the US police authorities were stated to have registered a case and subsequently arrested Sudheer Reddy on the charge of abetment to suicide.

The body of Saritha Reddy will be brought to Buchireddypalem, near here, where her father M. Srinivasa Reddy resides.
