VISAKHAPATNAM: The Beach Road in the city has been undergoing several changes for the better. It's wide, has newly laid footpaths, lights and always appears to be new while retaining its original charm.
As a part of beautification, it has been planned to raise greenery intermittently. But some of the efforts do not seem to be getting the attention they deserve.
Withering of saplings is a case in point and a sorry sight.
At first, it was planned to raise grass. But the beach road being venue of several gatherings there is always a possibility of the grass being trampled upon.
Hence officials thought of raising two-feet high bushy varieties that require less maintenance. As a sample, on a traffic divider near the Sub-marine Museum some saplings were planted.
But plans changed and bringing more suitable varieties is on the cards.
The new varieties are being brought from Kadiam in East Godavari district known for its nurseries, according to an official overseeing the work.
In the interregnum, elections demanded the energies and attention of officials. That led to the saplings that had already been planted are withering away.
