Seeks immediate arrest of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao
Samaikyandhra Political JAC (SPJAC) Convener N. Samuel demanded that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu change his stand in favour of unified State by following in the footsteps of his father-in-law N.T. Rama Rao who had given Andhra Pradesh a distinct identity around the world and enhanced the pride of Telugu-speaking people.
Prof. Samuel also pointed out that the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had acted decisively against the demand to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh in 1972, and suggested to United Progressive Alliance (UPA)-II Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to tread the same path that her mother-in-law had taken with regard to creation of small States.
Speaking at ‘Samaikyandhra Vidyarthi Garjana’ organised by Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samiti (SPS) here on Friday, Prof. Samuel said the SPJAC also expected YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to espouse the cause of unified State just like his father Rajasekhar Reddy, who had strongly opposed the proposed bifurcation of the State and kept the separatist forces backed by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao at bay. KCR had no courage to take on Mr. Rajasekhar Reddy, he said.
The people’s representatives of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema have rightly taken up the responsibility to keep the State united and they need active support of the student community, like their counterparts in Osmania and Kakatiya Universities took the lead in galvanising support for the agitation in favour of statehood for Telangana.
But for the instant uprising from Seemandhra against the December 9 statement by P. Chidambaram, the State would have been in dire straits. The same fighting spirit should continue if the evil designs of TRS and others wanting Telangana were to be foiled, Prof. Samuel said.
MLC Rayapati Srinivas said the State should not be divided at any cost as the bifurcation would have a far-reaching impact. Students should lead the agitation to keep the State united, he exhorted.
Samaikyandhra political JAC Co-Convener P. Narasimha Rao, SPS Convener Md. Hidayat, Guntur Bar Association President L. Ankam Chowdary, NGOs’ Association leader Rami Reddy and others spoke. Later, the meeting passed resolutions demanding unified State and immediate arrest of KCR.
