The ongoing agitation for Samaikyandhra will yield no fruit as the decision has already been taken and the government is unlikely go back on its announcement, said Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi (RPS) president, Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy.
At a media conference here on Sunday, he said the people of the region should either fight for a separate Rayalaseema State or insist on the formation of a new capital in the region, should Seemandhra State be formed. Mr. Reddy said October 1 would be observed as ‘Betrayal day’ in the form of rallies and a public meeting at Kurnool, to mark the injustice meted out to the city when the capital was moved to Hyderabad.
Even while holding ‘fake’ protests, the top political leaders of various parties are buying vast extent of land near Ongole, where the new capital is touted to be formed, he alleged. He demanded a share in taxes earned by Hyderabad for the development of Rayalaseema region.
He announced the names of Mabu Saheb (General Secretary), Vemula Sridhar (treasurer), T.Vijaya Raju and J. Subbarayudu (chief coordinators) as the new office-bearers, besides a dozen central executive members.
