After a rather dismal summer in terms of sales, the electronics industry is now pitching its hopes on the Dasara and Diwali season for the sales chart to swing up.
“On the whole, the industry is expected to witness a sales growth of about 12 per cent. We are expecting our sales (home appliances) to be a bit higher at 18 per cent,” said Rajeev Jain, Business Head, Home Appliances, LG Electronics India here on Friday.
There were many reasons, including the impact of the economic slowdown for the not-so-encouraging sales during the summer. But the next couple of months should witness good sales going by consumer purchasing trend over the years, he said.
Generally, people consider it auspicious to purchase new products during Dasara and Diwali.
“Though it is tough to zero in on particular products, most tend to buy low and mid-end products,” said Mr. Jain on the sidelines of Mallika-e-kitchen contest final, organised by the company.
Over 5,000 contestants had registered for the contest, of which, 24 participants from across the country were shortlisted for the finals, based on their performances in the previous rounds.
Contestants had to cook a main course dish in a stipulated time of 90 minutes using an oven.
Apart from taste, texture and innovation of the dishes prepared were the parameters for selecting the winners. Cooking mentor Nita Mehta and Chef Mandaar Sukhtankar were judges.
Disha Pujar from Mumbai emerged winner, while Narmada Joshi from Chandigarh and Saptaparna Bhattacharya from Kolkata were second and third winners respectively.
They were presented with 47 inch LED, 42 inch LCD and 32 inch LCD television sets respectively. C.Pawani and Suman Tiwari represented Hyderabad in the finals.
