Heavy rush was seen in jewel shops in Nellore on the eve of `Dhanatrayodasi' on Wednesday. Women and children were seen selecting gold and diamond ornaments of their choice in showrooms.

Devotees performed puja to Goddess Maha Lakshmi with gold and money at several places on the occasion. It is believed that people will be happy with good earnings, if they purchase gold on ‘Dhanatrayodasi' and perform puja after decorating the goddess with gold and silver ornaments.

Even as the prices of gold, silver and diamond were skyrocketing since a few days, customers thronged the jewel shops to purchase jewels on the auspicious day.

The jewel shop owners announced different schemes to attract the customers in view of ‘Dhanatrayodasi' and Deepavali festivals. In Jain Gold showroom located at Achari Street in the city, many varieties of gold and diamond ornaments including branded jewels like ‘Asmi' were displayed in the shop. The shop management is presenting pendants worth some thousands of rupees to the customers. The New Andhra Jewellers (NAJ), in the city announced a gold 12-month saving scheme ‘Dhana Vruksham'. NAJ will save gold on the name of the customers (on present price) who pay the monthly instalments.
