HYDERABAD: A ‘Sainik Niwas' building was opened at Tirumala on Monday by Sunita Khanna, Regional President of the Family Welfare Organisation, Southern Command of the Army. The land was allotted by the TTD in 2004.

The two storey building has 18 rooms and two dormitories and with modern amenities and the capacity to accommodate 50 persons. The facility fulfils the long-pending need of providing affordable accommodation at Tirumala for serving and retired Army personnel. The Army is also planning to start a bus service from Chennai Central Railway Station to Tirumala and back to facilitate travel, stay and darshan at Tirumala, a press release said.

Among those present at the inauguration were Lt. Gen. Pradeep Khanna, GOC-in-C, Southern Command, and Lt. Gen. B.K. Chengappa, General Officer Commanding for Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala Area.
