A junior sailor undergoing training at the INS Satavahana, S.I. Kumar, displayed exceptional moral ethics when he returned a bag containing cash that he found in a restaurant, to its owner recently.
The sailor had dined at a restaurant in Gajuwaka over the weekend. Whilst leaving the premises at about 9:30 p.m., he noticed that one of the diners at a table nearby had left his bag behind. Taking possession of the bag, Kumar enquired about its owner from those present. As no claimant came forward, he examined the contents of the bag with the intention of tracing the owner. The bag was found to contain a PAN card, a credit card and some documents belonging to K. Narayan Rao along with Rs. 2 lakh in cash and an Aadhaar card belonging to D. Ganesh.
Based on the address on the cards, Kumar traced the ownership of the bag to K. Narayan Rao, a contractor with the GVMC and his nephew, D. Ganesh. They were contacted on phone and requested to collect the bag with all its contents after due verification. The items were handed over to their rightful owners subsequently.
The sailor politely declined Mr. Narayan Rao’s desire to reward him financially.
