ENC conducts seminar

VISAKHAPATNAM: A seminar on ‘Sailing towards a greener Vizag’ was conducted by the Eastern Naval Command on Friday at Samudrika Naval auditorium, with a view to sharing the Navy’s experiences in conduct of conservation activities and also providing a platform for understanding the efforts of various organisations and industrial houses towards making Visakhapatnam a greener city.


A series of activities including cleanliness drives, screening of environmental awareness movies and conduct of related competitions were conducted in the run up to the seminar.

Vice Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of Staff, Headquarters, ENC and Chairman, ENC Environment Committee, inaugurated the seminar.

Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command delivered the keynote address.

Professor UB Reddy of Andhra University and BVA Krishna Murthy, DFO from VUDA, presented papers on related issues at the seminar.

Representatives from industrial houses including HPCL, BPCL, Coromandal Fertilizers and Hindustan Zinc Ltd also spoke.

Skit presented

The children from the Navy Children School demonstrated through a skit, their concern for the degrading environment and the need to bring about a revolutionary change in our attitudes.

Ms. Madhulika Verma, President NWWA, gave away prizes to winners of the competitions held earlier.

The seminar is a first step towards synergising the efforts of various organisations towards a cleaner and greener city.
