HYDERABAD: Minister for Cooperation, Labour and Employment R. Venkat Reddy has stressed the need for improvement of safety measures for workers in industries.

Safety should be as important as production for every industrial unit, he felt.

Speaking at the 39 {+t} {+h} National Safety Day celebrations here on Thursday, the Minister said safety of workers would assume significance, particularly in the wake of modernisation and globalisation.

It was better to take preventive measures rather than waiting for any mishap to occur and then reacting to the situation.

Principal Secretary of Labour, Employment, Training and Factories, Bhanwarlal said it was the responsibility of workers, union leader, managements and government officials enforcing the safety laws to create awareness on safety among workers.

Director of Factories and Chairman of Andhra Pradesh chapter of National Safety Council J. Balakirshore, Labour Commissioner Jonathan and others also spoke.
