HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham has demanded that the State Government take steps to provide basic facilities and scientific know-how to the farming sector for achieving self-reliance in food grain production.
In tune with the recommendations made by the National Commission on Farmers, the Government should take up market intervention wherever necessary, and create a special fund for stabilisation of prices to ensure that farmers secure remunerative prices for their produce. Measures should be initiated to enhance credit facility to farmers besides extending crop insurance facility to cover all crops, the CPI (M)-affiliated Rythu Sangham demanded.
Decline in credit
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Sangham State secretary S. Malla Reddy and president S. Rama Rao lamented that the farmers were being pushed into the market-driven economy that was highly unstable.
Moreover, the steep decline in credit facilities being provided to farmers was forcing them to secure loans from private lenders resulting in increasing burden on them.
