Employees of the Rural Water Supply (RWS), who were out of the agitation till date, on Tuesday plunged into it with by taking out a rally through the thoroughfares of the town.
The RWS Employees’ JAC in the district did not participate in the agitation on account the acute water crisis and to render the emergency services where all sources had dried up.
The rally started from the RWS Superintending Engineer’s office and passed through the Telugu Talli statue circle, the Saptagiri circle and Clock tower, and after garlanding the statue of Potti Sriramulu reached the protest venue at the Zilla Parishad. The protesters raised slogans demanding Samaikyandhra and criticised Sonia Gandhi for taking a unilateral decision to the detriment of the State.
Speaking to The Hindu , Anantapur RWS JAC convener Rangiah said that the employees of the department had decided to join the agitation more due to popular demand than that of the employees and that the RWS JAC would refrain from duties till the demand of Samaikyandhra was met.
However, he said that the engineers and staff of the department would maintain a skeletal staff to ensure that emergencies such contamination and shortage of drinking water were addressed so that the people were not put to problems. The RWS staff to join the stir was taken up after the drinking water crisis eased following rains in a majority of the mandals in the last month.
The medical and health JAC invited singer ghazal Srinivasulu to their camp where he sang a few songs on the need for the State to be united.
