Anantapur: A Russian national, Aleksin, who is presumed to have committed suicide, collapsed at the local RTC bus station with multiple bleeding injuries. He died while being taken to the government hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, he collapsed while alighting from an empty RTC bus which was parked in the bus station. He collapsed as he came out of the bus with multiple bleeding injuries on his neck and hands. He had with him a domestic kitchen knife with which he may have injured himself, according to the police.
Police said Aleksin may have cut himself in a bid to commit suicide while sitting alone in the empty RTC bus.
DSP Satyanarayana told The Hindu that the police was yet to ascertain the cause of the suicide or the purpose of his visit. There was no indication of his visit to Puttaparthi as enquiries revealed that he had not visited the place. Aleksin came on a tourist visa (number AK817407) and passport number (62N 9151742).
The DSP said that he had informed the Russian Embassy in New Delhi of the suicide of the Russian national. An inquest had been conducted on the body, which had been kept in the mortuary at the government hospital. Post-mortem examination would be undertaken only after obtaining the approval of the Russian Embassy.
Aleksin had in his pocket a mobile phone, Indian currency (Rs.1,400) and a bunch of Russian currency notes.
