The Peddapuram police on Saturday arrested Palivela Satti Babu, 35, of Chelluru in Kapileswarapuram mandal of East Godavari district, who allegedly escaped from the central prison in Rajahmundry along with his friend Sangeeta Chakra Rao at 7.30 p.m. on December 20, 2010.
The police caught him on Annavaram bypass road when he was going towards Narsipatnam in an autorickshaw.
Chakra Rao was arrested by the city police on April 26, 2011. Addressing a press conference here, district Superintendent of Police G. Srinivas charged Satti Babu and Chakra Rao with committing 14 offences in East Godavari and Visakha rural districts in the last two years.
“We have recovered 110 grams of gold jewellery and silver ornaments weighing 14 tolas from Satti Babu. The booty is estimated to cost Rs. 4 lakh,” he said.
Referring to the modus operandi of the accused, Mr. Srinivas said that Satti Babu, along with his friends Chakar Rao and Kuridi Siva, steal motorcycles and autorickshaws parked on the roadside and burgle houses during night times.
After escaping from the prison, Satti Babu continued to commit offenses and resorted to burglaries in Annavaram and the surrounding areas.
Mr. Srinivas congratulated the Peddapuram police on their achievement.
