Samachara Hakku Prachara Ikya Vedika district unit will hold a people's ballot in 13 mandals including Khammam urban and rural mandals on February 21 on the issue of appointment of eight RTI commissioners by the State government, which is presently shrouded in controversy.

In a statement, the vedika district president T Naraiah said the people's ballot will be conducted by the Vedika in association with several other organisations on Tuesday to mobilise public opinion against the appointment of eight RTI commissioners by the State government in “contravention” of the provisions laid down by the Right to Information Act, 2005.

The people's ballot will be conducted at 16 localities in Khammam town and 13 mandals across the district from 10 am to 6 pm on Tuesday. The polled ballots will be counted and the results will be declared in the presence of prominent persons on February 22, he said.
