The Telangana agitation threatens to cast its shadow on the Haj 2011. With hardly a week left for the special Haj flights to commence, authorities at the Haj Committee are worried about the transportation of pilgrims.

Every year the Haj Committee requisitions the services of APSRTC to transport the pilgrims from the Haj House in Nampally to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad. With the RTC employees joining the stir, Haj Committee officials are really concerned.

Haj Committee chairman, Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed, has taken up the matter with the RTC authorities and the latter is expected to take a decision soon.

About a dozen special buses are engaged every year to ferry the pilgrims to the Airport for about 10 to 15 days.

There are days when two to three flights are scheduled and the RTC fleet are required to make extra trips. Also a DGT van is requisitioned to carry the pilgrim luggage.

In case the RTC is unable to operate its fleet in view of the Telangana stir, the Haj committee has planned to go for alternative arrangements. “We may have to engage private buses to transport the pilgrims”, Mr. Ahmed said.
