A few APSRTC buses plied with police escort on some important routes in the district on Wednesday even as the indefinite strike by the employees owing allegiance to the Telangana RTC JAC entered the third day.
Sources said miscreants damaged the windowpanes of a bus bound to Eluru in West Godavari district from Sattupalli by hurling stones at the vehicle near a village on Khammam-West Godavari district border in the afternoon.
Though most of the bus services remained paralysed in the district, the RTC authorities roped in the services of a few contract drivers and conductors and operated skeleton bus services mostly on important inter-district routes on Wednesday.
Nearly 3,000 employees, including the drivers and conductors of the corporation, abstained from work for the third day.
The authorities operated little over 30 bus services on Khammam-Vijayawada, Khammam-Rajahmundry, and a few other main routes, sources said.
A large posse of police personnel were deployed at all the bus depots. When contacted, RTC Regional Manager V Venkateshwarlu said more than 30 bus services plied on main routes on Wednesday. “Over 200 contract drivers and conductors operated the bus services,” he said.
