NALGONDA: In a strategic move to counter intense competition from the private transport operators and improve the occupancy ratio, the APSRTC has introduced Merupu bus services on five busy routes in the district.

The Merupu buses painted in attractive colours have been introduced on Nalgonda-Devarakonda, Suryapet-Jangaon, Devarakonda-Miryalaguda, Kodad-Miryalaguda and Yadagirigutta-Hyderabad routes recently.

The move also assumed significance in the backdrop of huge operational losses suffered by the RTC in the region due to swine flu menace and floods earlier and a series of agitations including bandhs later during the fag end of last year and beginning of this year.

The officials concerned have embarked on a major publicity drive by circulating specially designed pamphlets captioned “Merupu Buslu Undaga Toofan Jeeplu Enduku Dhandaga” among the passengers to highlight the Merupu bus services.

“The Merupu bus services facilitate speedy travel at ordinary (Pallevelugu service) fairs with limited halts,” said R Naga Raju, APSRTC Nalgonda Regional Manager.

Speaking to The Hindu, he said that the Merupu bus services were introduced to enable the passengers reach their destinations in less time and safely at ordinary charges.

Luck draw

“The response from the passengers is encouraging,” he said adding that a lucky draw scheme was also launched on main routes and gifts would be given to five winners every fortnight as part of a passenger friendly initiative.

Additional focus has been laid on improving efficiency of the staff and services to the passengers besides strengthening the corporation, he said.
