An APSRTC bus driver, M. Durga Rao (45), died on the spot when a lorry driver drove on him at Vedayapalem Centre in the city in the wee hours on Wednesday.

According to Circle Inspector P. Veeranjaneya Reddy, the RTC bus was proceeding from Madira of Khammam district to Tirupati when the incident occurred.

A lorry moving in the same direction from Vijayawada to Chennai hit the bus from behind when the vehicle reached the junction at around 2.30 a.m.

The angered bus driver stopped the lorry and had an argument with the lorry driver, who in a fit of rage, drove the bus on Durga Rao, crushing him under the wheels. The accused fled the spot along with the vehicle.

Police launched a search to trace the lorry. The Fifth-Town police registered a case.
