Unskilled drivers used to counter strike: TRS
An APSRTC bus fatally knocked down a three-wheeler driver at Jubilee Hills on Saturday, triggering protests by pro-Telangana activists accusing the government of using unskilled persons to drive RTC buses only to counter the ongoing general strike.
While a demonstration led by TRS MLA, T. Harish Rao, at Jubilee Hills check-post threw traffic out of gear, the Minister for Labour, Danam Nagender, announced Rs. 10 lakh compensation to the victim's family after heated arguments with the agitators. Driver of the bus going from Yousufguda check-post had to apply brakes at the uphill Indiranagar road after a vehicle in the front suddenly stopped. “It is yet to be ascertained what exactly happened but passers-by maintained the bus started moving backwards since the driver could not use the brakes properly,” the Jubilee Hills police said. Shakeel, driver of the bus which hit an auto-rickshaw behind it, jumped out and fled.
The three-wheeler driver, Mallesh, got crushed to death. Residents of the area assembled at the spot in large numbers and alleged that the ‘government's attempt to operate bus services by hook or crook' claimed Mallesh's life.
Mr. Harish Rao and scores of Telangana Joint Action committee members descended at the spot and criticised that the “government's desperate acts were killing innocent people”.
They shifted the body of Mallesh to Jubilee Hills check-post and squatted on the road demanding compensation to his family. This held up traffic on all connected routes. Meanwhile, Mr. Nagender too arrived there and pacified the driver's relatives assuring all possible help.
