A complex to establish production units

    Kakinada: The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has sanctioned a Rs.1-crore project for the wood carving artisans of Chittoor district, according to Gummidipudi Dasaradha Chari, Secretary of Kala Srusti, a rural educational handlooms and handicrafts artisans welfare association.

    At a press conference here on Thursday, he said, the project that wood provide a complex for 500 artisans to establish production units, training in new designs and marketing facilities, would come up at Mallavaram in Yerpedu mandal within a couple of months.

    While the KVIC provides Rs.75 lakhs for the project, the balance of Rs.25 lakhs would be the artisans' contribution through banks.

    He said the Development Commissioner Handicrafts had sanctioned common facility service centres for artisans at Sri Kalahasti for the benefit of the wood carving and Kalamkari artisans.
