KADAPA: Taxes to the tune of Rs. 5.15 crore were collected from 805 Gram Panchayats in Kadapa district, District Panchayat Officer K. Sudhakar said.
The tax collection was 68 per cent of the targeted 7.50 crore, he told newsmen at Vempalle.
Tax assessment was enhanced in all panchayats, including minor panchayats. Tax demand of Rs. 3,000 in a minor panchayat in Tsundupalle was increased to Rs. 1.02 lakh and tax demand in Utukur panchayat was enhanced from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 5 lakh, he said.
Twenty two gram panchayats are vying to bag the Nirmal Gram Puraskar and at least 15 of them might bag the award, he hoped. -Special Correspondent
