He harps on development achieved during TDP regime
Telugu Desam Party President Nara Chandrababu Naidu was visibly in upbeat mood with the response to his ‘Vastunna Meekosam’ Padayatra in the district on the second day on Sunday.
The people gathered in impressive numbers from Arjumuru Garuvu to Peda Amiram village in the district. The Cherukuvada villagers, mostly toddy tappers, gave him a rousing reception. Mr. Naidu addressed a public meeting at Undi, and spoke at length about the developments that had taken place during Telugu Desam rule and welfare schemes implemented for the toddy tappers.
“A total prohibition was implemented in the State when N. T. Rama Rao was Chief Minister. However, the toddy tapping was not prohibited keeping in view their livelihood,” he recalled.
Mr. Naidu, who addressed meetings at Arjamuru Garuvu, Undi and other places, said that the Telugu Desam was committed to the development of Backward Classes (BCs), minorities and SCs and STs.
The TDP, come what may, would strive for development and progress of BCs, he said. Three candidates — Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Md. Saleem and Samanthakamani — were selected for MLC elections. The party will earmark 100 seats for the BCs in 2014 elections and 15 to minorities. The tickets would be given on population basis, he assured people.
Referring to alleged corrupt practices during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy tenure, Mr. Naidu said: “While you don’t have a roof over your heads, his (Dr. Reddy’s) son Jagan had built palatial palaces in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Your MLA will arrange a free trip to there. Compare my house with that of Mr. Jagan’s. You will realize what is what and who is corrupt.”
“Dr. Reddy initiated many enquiries and committees against me. But, I came clean,” the TDP leader said, adding, “Iam waging a ‘dharma yuddham’ against the corruption. Give me a day on elections. I will work as your servant for five years.”
Stating that his wife Bhuvaneswari runs a business, Mr. Naidu observed: “I don’t have to earn anything for my family. She can feed me even if I don’t work hereafter. But, at this age, I have set walkathon to see happiness in your eyes.”
Undi MLA V.Sivaramaraju, TDP district president Thota Sita Mahalakshmi, former MLA Manganti Babu and others were present.
