VISAKHAPATNAM: Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI (M) has opposed the hike in the price of milk by Visakha Dairy. It demanded immediate rollback of the hike.
The Congress Governments in the Centre and the State have already caused an undue burden on the common man by hiking the prices of essential commodities like petrol and diesel.
The steep hike of Rs.2 a litre on milk would add to the woes of the common man, the party's city committee secretary K. Lokanadham noted in a statement.
He said that the hike in the prices of essential commodities without a proportionate hike in the income was crippling the poor and middle class people.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has also hiked the property tax, water charges and other civic taxes.
Mr. Lokanadham alleged that the Visakha Dairy management had hiked the price of milk on the plea of scarcity of fodder, increase in the price of fodder and to reduce the burden on dairy farmers. He said that the dairy management had hiked the price not with any special concern for farmers but as a sequel to the hike in prices by the Government.
He said it was unfortunate that the managements that were averse to increase the wages of staff were not hesitating to tax the consumers.
