NELLORE: The Gudur police arrested an inter-district robber B. Kalyan alias Surendra and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 6.60 lakh and a laptop from his possession.

The accused was involved in several house breaking cases including a theft in the house of Gudur Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate on November 11, 2008.

Briefing media persons here on Friday, Superintendent of Police B.Malla Reddy said Kalyan, a native of Timmaji Kandriga village of Nayudupeta mandal, was arrested twice by the Nayudupeta police and thrice by the Nellore Crime Police in various theft cases.


He escaped from police custody while being shifted from Gudur sub jail to Sullurpeta court in October 2005. The police subsequently arrested him.

He was released from jail in 2008 and was involved in a series of house burglaries in Gudur town. The accused, who was an autorickshaw driver, also committed thefts in the neighbouring districts. The modus operandi of the accused was to identify locked houses during day time, commit the offence during nights and sell the booty in Chennai. A team led by Gudur CI Seetaramaiah, SI C. Manikya Rao and other staff arrested Kalyan at Chillakur bypass road on Friday morning. The police will open a rowdy sheet against the accused as he was involved in several offences in the last 13 years, said the SP.

Additional Superintendent of Police J. Kanaka Rao, Gudur DSP Gangadhar and others were present.
