VISAKHAPATNAM: Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, achieved the best-ever sales turnover of Rs.5,282 crores during the first half of the current fiscal with an impressive growth of 26 per cent over the corresponding period of last year.

During the period, 8.16 lakh tonne of value-added products were sold compared to 6.58 lakh tonne sold during the corresponding period of last year, which represented a growth of 24 per cent. Seventy four per cent of total saleable steel was sold in value-added category in the first half of 2008-09 against 51 per cent sold during the corresponding period of last year.

Sales of by-products stood at Rs.129 crores accounting for a growth of 27 per cent over the corresponding period of last year. Nearly 36,500 tonne of steel products were sold to district-level dealers, which represented a growth of 208 per cent over the corresponding period of last year. Value added production of 10.9 lakh tonne during the period April-September was the best for any first half performance since inception of RINL.

Expansion project

On the expansion front, major packages for Sinter Plant, Blast Furnace, Steel Melt Shop, Calcining and Refractory Material Plant, Wire Rod Mill, Raw Material Handling System, Turbo Blower - 4, Special Bar Mill, Structural Mill have already been ordered.
