Paying rich tributes to Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, S. Gopal, Chairman, AP Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board, said the departed leader was credited with extracting a favourable decision to recruit master list candidates from the Visakhapatnam Port Trust.
Speaking at a meeting here after garlanding the portrait of Dr. YSR, Mr. Gopal said on Thursday that despite amendment to Contract Labour Abolition & Regulation Act by the then NDA Government, Dr. Reddy, when he was the Chief Minister, made use of his good office and brought pressure on Central authorities to regularise services of contract workers as far as possible in port, defence and other organisations. He said in RTC and other organisations under the control of the State government, Dr. Reddy had made the jobs permanent for contract workers. He was also instrumental in providing insurance, medical for the contract workers and took the initiative to set up a board for unorganised sector workers to provide them social security.
The birth anniversary of Dr. Reddy was also celebrated on the premises of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).
Speaking on the occasion, VIMS Director K.V. Subba Rao said that the institution was the brainchild of YSR.
The former Chief Minister inaugurated the hospital with an objective of providing better medical facilities to the people, Dr. Subba Rao said and hoped that the dream of the former Chief Minister would come true.
He garlanded a portrait of Rajasekhara Reddy and paid tributes. DE Srinivasa Murthy and office supervisor Balagopal were present.
