Farmers say it with vegetables they bought to sell

Rich tributes were paid by government offices and organisations to former Chief Minister late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on the occasion of his 61 {+s} {+t} birth anniversary on Thursday.

The birth anniversary was celebrated on a grand scale in government offices and institutions, following a circular issued by the State government. Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), Information and Public Relations Department, Social Welfare Department, Rythu Bazars and many other departments organised the celebrations, and recalled the services of Dr. Reddy.

The Swaraj Maidan Rythu Bazaar Estate Officer B. Srinivasa Rao and others organised the celebrations in an innovative way.

The farmers offered tributes to YSR with the vegetables they brought to sell. Later, they distributed cakes to the customers.

The VMC organised a meeting at Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram, and public representatives led by Animal Husbandry Minister K. Parthasarathy cut a cake in memory of the Chief Minister.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that the people could never forget YSR for the welfare schemes he initiated.

Recollecting some of the popular schemes like Rajiv Arogyasri, they said that the best tribute that could be paid to YSR was by continuing the schemes in letter and spirit.

Mr. Parthasarathy, Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu distributed bank linkage loans worth Rs. 77.60 lakh to 33 self-help groups and Abhayahastham bonds to the beneficiaries. Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu, Deputy Mayor S. P. Gritton, Congress floor leader in the VMC general body Meesala Rajeswara Rao, CPI floor leader D. Sankar, City Congress president Pyla Sominaidu, PCC secretary Kolanukonda Sivaji, AP Grandhalaya Samstha Chairman Turlapaty Kutumba Rao and others were present.

Vijayawada Sub-Collector K. Dharma Reddy, State Information Centre Assistant Director K. Jaganmohan Rao, I&PR Regional Joint Director L. Swarnalatha, Social Welfare Department Assistant Welfare Officer P. Syam, Rajiv Arogyasri District Coordinator K.L.N. Prasad, District Minority Welfare Officer P. S. Prabhakara Rao and others paid tributes to the late Chief Minister at various programmes organised in the city. The people and Congress workers paid floral tributes to the portraits of the former chief minister at various places in the city.

Special prayers were also held on the occasion. Feeding the poor and distribution of fruit to the patients was held as part of the celebrations.
