Junior NTR pays homage by giving `milk bath' to grandfather's statue

TIRUPATI: Glowing tributes were paid to N.T. Rama Rao, founder of the TDP, on his 11th death anniversary here on Thursday.

Town Club junction where the TDP scion's statue stands majestically throbbed with a lot of activity right from the crack of dawn with party leaders and scores of NTR's fans making a beeline and emptying pitchers of milk on the statue as a mark of reverence to the leader.

The highlight was late leader's grandson and actor NTR Junior paying homage to his grandfather by letting milk cascade down his statue and later offering him floral tributes. The young star was here in connection with the victory celebrations of his hit film `Rakhee.'Homage was paid to NTR in other parts of Chittoor district with which the actor-turned-politician was emotionally associated at every stage of his life.

At Kalahasti, his followers and fans led by former Chairman of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) P.R. Mohan put up tents around the temple, displaying photos of NTR's hit films based on mythology and social issues.

A poor-feeding programme was organised by hamalis while a small coconut vendor Venu Reddy broke 250 coconuts in front of NTR's portrait at the temple. Fruits, bread, NTR calendars, etc. were distributed to patients in local Government hospital.

Kurnool Special Correspondent writes: Telugu Desam leaders paid rich tributes to Rama Rao here. . Party district president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy, S.V. Mohan Reddy and others garlanded the portrait of NTR in the party office and paid homage. Later, they gathered at NTR statue at the Collectorate and paid floral tributes.

Clothes distributed

Free lunch was offered and clothes distributed to the poor at several places in the city. Party leaders Arja Ramakrishna, L. Viswanatham and B. Ananthaiah were present.

At Mahanandi, near Nandyal, actor and NTR's son Balakrishna inaugurated a poor-feeding programme sponsored by TDP leader Bhuma Nagireddy. Earlier, Balakrishna visited Saibaba temple in Nandyal and offered prayers.
