The Girijana Sankshema Parishad (GSP) convener Sonde Veeraiah has demanded that Bhadrachalam division should remain as an integral part of Telangana.

Speaking to newsmen here on Saturday, he said the division, which was hitherto part of East Godavari district, was merged with Khammam district in 1959 for administrative viability. Khammam has emerged as a convenient place for Adivasis to visit for their varied nature of works since then. Several Adivasi youths are studying in Kakatiya University in Warangal and Osmania University in Hyderabad. Adivasis of the vast Bhadrachalam division mainly depend on NIMS in Hyderabad and MGM Hospital in Warangal for specialist and emergency medicare services, he noted.

Any move to merge the division with East Godavari district would result in untold hardships to Adivasis, he said. “Bhadrachalam division should be retained in Telangana for safeguarding the interests of Adivasis. The Girijana Sankshema Parishad will organise a dharna in Bhadrachalam on October 30 in this regard,” he said.
